A Reporter Disguise

An Inquiry at the Band House The Cover Story Doc and Denis pose as a music reporter and photographer to visit the Boards, where Coy is rumored to be living. The crowded mansion seems prosperous but is charged with an atmosphere Doc cannot explain. Uneasy Company Security-minded men watch the residents, and conversations stop when outsiders approach. Doc senses that the house's carefree image conceals surveillance and fear.

A Strange Meeting

Coy Hides in Plain Sight An Indirect Conversation Doc speaks to Coy about a vehicle instead of openly discussing the people Coy wants to protect. Coy's cautious answers suggest that the house is monitored and that direct words could endanger him. The Pressure of Secrecy The encounter confirms that Coy is not free to speak openly. Doc leaves without a clear explanation, but the guarded exchange deepens his concern that the counterculture setting is being used as cover for an intelligence operation.

The Zombie Panic

A Drug-Fueled Pursuit Fear Takes Over After being given marijuana that may contain something else, Doc believes the Boards and Spotted Dick are zombies. Denis shares the panic, and the house turns into a nightmare of pursuit and confusion. An Actual Escape Doc and Denis flee through the grounds and find Jade, who is also trying to escape. A sinister Mercury woodie follows them down the canyon before disappearing, leaving the cause of the chase uncertain.

Jade's Other Identity

The Woman Behind the Name A Life of Reinvention Jade explains that her real name is Ashley and that the massage parlor was never a meaningful career to her. Her history includes theft, incarceration, and a partnership with Bambi that grew from shared survival. A Wider Threat She also says that people connected to the Golden Fang have reason to watch her. Her story turns her from a comic figure in Doc's case into someone with firsthand knowledge of the organization.

A Dangerous Friendship

Help and Exposure A Loyal Companion Jade and Bambi's relationship is marked by affection, shared work, and mutual protection. Bambi's absence frightens Jade enough to ask Doc for help, though the two soon appear together at FFO. A Continuing Risk Jade's warning about the Golden Fang and her knowledge of its business place both women in danger. Their movement through clubs and massage businesses makes private intimacy inseparable from the network's demands.
